New Quilt Started

Mario quilt a 033116I really didn’t need a new project, BUT I was listening to a podcast the other day, Katie’s Quilting Corner, and she was talking about finishing a Super Mario pixel quilt. I remembered that a few years ago I had bookmarked a website with the patterns and I had started creating them in EQ. So Tuesday I finished my designing, Wednesday was a trip to Joann’s for solid fabrics and last night as I got caught up on The Stitch TV Show I started sewing the first block together. Everything was cut out with my Studio and my 2″ square die (the original pattern calls for 1.5″ squares), I am going to make 9 blocks and they measure about 27″ when put together. The hubby is VERY excited about this quilt and wants it finished as soon as I can get it done. There are 324 squares in each block and they are easy to put together. I webbed the rows as I put it together and then sewed row to row. This quilt is going to end up being almost 100 x 100, and I already told the hubby that it will be going out to be quilted. There’s a few longarmers in the guild that I can see if they have time available to quilt it. I certainly don’t need anything special, an all over design will be just fine.

star block 033116I started to cut out the squares for the next block tonight, I need to cut more background squares and then I can start putting it together. I should have another update soon! Linking up to Needle and Thread Thursday over at My Quilt Infatuation.

Dear Jane….Changes

dear jane eqI’ve been working on my Dear Jane quilt for almost 6 years. I really just lost interest when my son was born and I just didn’t have a lot of time for quilting. After teaching last week and talking about it and listening to Lazy Daisy’s podcast the other day, I decided that I lost interest in it because I just don’t like the fabrics. The Civil War colors just aren’t me. So I’ve now decided that I’m going to take everything I have done and put it together into a small quilt (right now as designed it’s under 50″ square). I have 4 blocks I need to make to make this work, and also figure out what to do with the triangles that I already have done. I still want to do a Dear Jane quilt, BUT this time I will do it in MY colors. Might use my equinox fabrics, or Moda Marbles, or just scraps but it will be something that I’ll enjoy making this time. I’m actually debating hand sewing them, and if I do that I can take them camping this summer. It would make a great summer project. I will use up as much of the fabric pieces I have in the backing, binding and possibly the border and then I’ll have to decide what to do with the remaining pieces. Might just take it to guild and give it away.

It’s amazing how making a decision like this is freeing. I’m now excited to start the new Dear Jane quilt! Hope to have some updates soon, shouldn’t take too long to get this top put together since the blocks are already put together!

AccuQuilt Shopping

Studio Supplies 022316I couldn’t help myself recently when Accuquilt had a big sale on dies. I had already put some Studio mats in my cart and was on the fence on how badly I needed them – shipping can be a lot when the order isn’t much. Then I received an email that offered half off Studio dies! I decided to get the 2.5″ multiple die, I do have the Go die but there are an extra 3 squares on the Studio die, and the signature die. I made that runner for Valentine’s Day using it and there are a lot of designs I’ve seen lately using it so why not be able to cut more out at once? Hoping to be back soon with some finishes, I have 3 quilts just needing binding.

Valentine’s Finish!

Vday runner 3I managed to get this finished just in time for the Valentine’s holiday weekend! The whole thing was cut out with my Studio and was 100% fabrics from my stash. I saw the idea on one of my Facebook groups and knew I had to make it for our breakfast bar, besides I needed to get the Christmas one off! 🙂 It was easy piecing and pretty easy to quilt since I just did 1/4″ on either side of the seam lines. I ended up also doing an X inside the X because I felt it really needed it. Threw it in the washer and it came out of the dryer all nice and crinkly, just the way I like it.Vday runner 2

On the Needles – February 6, 2016

Basketweave scarf 020616I’m a day late with this, but I just started a new project last night and needed to get a picture of it! I really didn’t need a new project, but Alex had asked me awhile ago to make him a red scarf (his favorite color). I had the yarn, just didn’t have a pattern. So this week I spent a little time on Ravelry and found a cute basketweave scarf pattern. It’s really an easy pattern, I’ve already completed 2 repeats and hope to get a lot more done this weekend. I did get a little more done on the camo blanket for my sister, but I’ve already put it away and don’t feel like getting it out for another picture! 🙂 Hopefully I’ll have the scarf completed quickly so I can work on one of the other projects.

Hexie Insanity Update and a Win!

Hexi Insanity 013116It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update on Hexie Insanity. I’ve been working on getting the white on white pathways attached to all my diamonds that were already put together. I have about 7 left (I think) that need the pathways and then I can start making more diamonds! I have all the single hexies completed (in the small container in the right corner) and ready to be put to use in the pattern. I really want to get all the diamonds completed before I decide how I want this to look, follow a pattern, rainbow, random? I’m sort of thinking a controlled random – so the same colors aren’t near each other but we’ll see. I still have 103 diamonds left to make! I also have 42 flowers left to make for the border, last summer I started putting the first border together, only to shift focus to the diamond pathways instead. It will get finished eventually, I knew it would be a slow, couple year project when I started it.

Scrap Win 013116I enter giveaways all the time and while I can’t say I never win, I hardly ever win. Last week I got an email saying that I had won a giveaway for some fabric scraps and she needed my address to send them. I thought it was a hoax! Once I searched on the email address and found the blog again, re-engineered, I remembered entering the giveaway. I love all the purples! I’ll have to keep them in the bag so they don’t get mixed up with my stash so I can make something with all of them.

Hope to be back this week with another finish, I have a table runner that I want to see if I can make and finish!

Another Finish!

4 patch 012616I really wanted some mindless piecing this week and decided to make a scrap quilt from a design I did in EQ7. It’s just a mixture of small and large four patch blocks. I used a lot of 2.5″ squares, and used 1 and a half of a batik charm pack for the 4.5″ squares. I finished it up Sunday afternoon, but there were too many toys on the floor to get a picture. I wanted to get pictures yesterday but Alex somehow managed to catch strep throat and we spent all morning at the Dr’s and I just didn’t have the energy to do anything in the afternoon! I still need to find some backing and batting so this can be quilted, but it will make a nice quilt for in the trailer this summer. Unfortunately this hasn’t made a single dent in my 2.5″ square bin!!

Etsy Shop

Love Bunting - FullA few years ago I created a shop on Etsy intending on putting items up for sale, and I just never got around to it. Last year I started listing items that I make on the embroidery machine and every couple of weeks I add new items. Today I listed this cute Love Bunting. It ends up about a foot long once it’s on the ribbon. Come on over and check out what’s available!

On the Needles – Updates – January 22, 2016

Camo Blanket 012216I’ve been working on this blanket for my sister recently. I started it a LONG time ago (ok, maybe only a year ago) and usually only work on it during the winter. Since it’s getting heavy it’s kinda warm. I have a long way to go on it, I have a lot of this yarn to use up and my sister is taller than me and it needs to cover her up!

Shawl 012216I started this after my son’s birthday party so I could relax. I love the colors in the yarn but I’m not so happy with the yarn itself. It seems to fray a bit and if it’s pulled too tight it can come apart very easily. It’s very easy knit and purl, which I don’t mind when we are watching tv!

Socks 012216I still haven’t finished those doggone socks! Started them last May and I just have to finish the ribbing on the second sock. I didn’t mind the work on the rest of the sock, but I’m really not liking the k2p2 ribbing that I’m doing. Every once in awhile I take it back out and do a row or two before putting it away. There’s about 3-4 inches left to do and I do want to finish them so I can wear them!

Need to be able to work on knitting and hexies and I’d like to get back to my cross stitch too! I think once I finish hexie insanity I’ll only do cross stitch and knitting as hand work and just do the quilting in my office – of course I might change my mind too! 🙂

New Start

four patch quilt 012116So I finished a quilt this week, that means I can start a new one right? LOL. I have 2 small quilts sitting here basted and ready to be quilted and another that’s been quilted and just needs binding. Do I work on either of those today? Heck no! I started a new quilt that I designed in EQ recently. These are all the 2.5″ squares I need to do the 84 small 4-patches and I need to decide what I’m going to use for the 21 4-patches made from 4.5″ squares. I’m thinking I might use a charm pack I have sitting here, I’ll think about it for a while since I need to finish putting these together first. I pulled 108 white and 108 colored 2.5″ squares from the bins to put these together and would you believe that I had very few duplicates in the colored squares? The whites I don’t have a lot of, but I don’t mind duplicates in those since it’ll be spread out and they are white on white so the texture is all the same. Hoping to get all the small 4 patches done tonight while I watch the Cavs game – after the kids go to bed of course!

I’ve had the embroidery machine going all day stitching out some new lace designs I bought. It’ll be another banner/bunting for my etsy shop that I’d like to get posted tomorrow. The last design is on the machine now – for the fourth time! I think I need the machine needs a tune up, but I’d have to pay to have someone come to the house to do it, I can’t get it out of the room anymore! I need to do some research, maybe I can do it myself.
