I did manage to finish the 2 tasks I wanted to finish this month, I got the doll quilt completely finished AND I completed a block for my Harry Potter quilt. Cassie is thrilled with her new doll quilt, she immediately took it and put it on one of her doll beds. I just did simple loopy quilting in the triangles, I still need to work on my speed with curves, there’s some eyelashing on the back, but Cassie’s doll won’t care!
I picked an easy block from my Harry Potter quilt to do, the Deathly Hallows. With this block done I now only have 13 left to do! I might see if I can get another one done today, we’ll see since we have some rearranging to do in Cassie’s room today.
I was hoping to get my first hexagon quilt basted earlier in the month, and I wasn’t able to do that then, however I was able to start working on it today! i should be able to get it finished tonight while I watch some basketball. This will be hand quilted this year!
I’m trying to figure out what I want to work on for my goals this month. I have a lot of tasks I have to do for Valentine’s Day for the kids school, but I certainly don’t want to list those as goals., those are MUST DO’s. π I think what I really would like to do is put together at least 1 Harry Potter block (not sure which one yet) and quilt the baby doll quilt that I basted last month. I ordered thread for the guild block exchange quilt but I know that won’t get done this month. Maybe if I have time I can get another quilt basted, but I certainly don’t think that will happen!
January goal: Baste 2 quilts. Shouldn’t be too hard right? Well it wasn’t! Granted one of them was quite small, I still got it done! The small one is going to be a baby doll blanket for Cassie. Just need to figure out how I want to quilt it. Then I picked out a large quilt to baste. Found just the right color backing and basted my 2013 quilt guild challenge quilt! I need to get some Aurifil thread in the right aqua/blue color before I can quilt it, but I’m not sure how I want to quilt it yet anyway. The board basting was easier than I thought it would be, it took me an afternoon when Alex was sick to get it basted. Can’t wait to start quilting it!
Like I said Alex was sick for 3 days last week, then of course this week I get it! So I haven’t had time – or felt like even working – on quilting anything yet. I do have another quilt that is on my UFO list to get a binding on, that will be another post when it’s finished. π I did pull out another top to baste, but since I was sick it didn’t get anywhere. I want to start hand quilting my first hexagon quilt, just need to pick out a backing first!
Linking up to Elm Street Quilts and will have to start thinking about next months goal!
Wow! I can’t believe it’s 2020! Seems like just yesterday that we were getting married in 1999, then the kids being born 2010 and 2014 and now here it is 2020. Why does time have to march so fast??
I spent the last week of the year working on getting some things completed, including finishing the top we started at our mystery workshop at guild in December. I bought the fabric back in 2013 I was trying to get folks interested in doing a block exchange with the 2014 Hoffman Challenge fabric. No one was interested but I decided to buy fabric anyway because I liked it so much. So when I decided to do the mystery quilt I remembered this fabric and found that it was just about enough to make the top. I had to order some additional – yes I found some even 5 years later! – so I could finish the top. Not sure when it will be quilted, but it is on my UFO challenge list for this year!
Back in 2016, one of my online groups, the Twilters, did a block exchange based on the book by Frances O’Roarke Dowell called Birds in the Air. It started as a way to help Frances get a quilt completed for the release of the book, and then morphed into a signed block exchange. My blocks sat here for quite some time because I couldn’t decide what to do with them. How did i want to set them? I had a lot of designs done in EQ and just never followed through with any of them. So as I was working on my UFO list for 2020, I decided that these might be a quick finish to completed top – I just needed to make 3-4 blocks to finish the design. Got that all put together New Year’s Day. Now it’s on the UFO list and just needs to be quilted.
Beginning of last year I found out about a SAL for a Harry Potter quilt – and you know how much I love Harry Potter! It was being run by Kelli over at Seriously I think it needs stitches who did the Pokemon quilt I put together a year or so ago. (links are to the pages on Kelli’s site). I bought the kit from Fat Quarter Shop and got started on blocks. I fizzled out during the year, business started picking up and we just weren’t home much over the summer. But at the end of the year I really wanted to be working on something simple, and these blocks are put together pretty simply – just lots of pieces. So I sat and figured out how many I need for the layout that would totally cover our king sized bed and started working to fill in the blocks I needed for the first 2 rows. Got those 3 blocks done and the first 2 rows are now put together. As soon as I can get my year end inventory completed I can work on the next block.
So, I want to rejoin the One Monthly Goal linkup this year in the hopes that I can get something done on my UFO list this year. Last year I completed NOTHING on my list! I’ve created the page at the top and hope to have some finished quilts in it this year! This month I want to get 2 quilts basted and possibly start quilting them. I don’t know which 2 they will be, possibly the ones shown above, maybe one of the many others that just needs to be quilted. I have batting, just need to figure out backings.
Wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to get everything done this month! Cassie turned 5 and she had a wonderful birthday weekend. Her first party with friends and I know she had a ball. Sad about the turnout, only 3 of 10 kids invited showed up, but we made it fun anyway.
So I wanted to get all of the O blocks cut out and basted in March. I did do that, and started putting them together as well. 2 are finished, only 10 more to go. Colors look funny on some of them because of the color of the card stock I used. Can’t wait to start putting this together! Cassie keeps asking when her quilt will be done, I guess I need to work on it more than I am already!
The main thing I wanted to get done this month was the first 7 blocks of the Harry Potter QAL over at Seriously I think it needs stitches. The blocks aren’t hard, well except for that car in the Whomping Willow that is. That one took me an entire day to do because I kept putting pieces together wrong and had to recut them and start over. As of today I just need to do 4 more blocks and I’m caught up, wonder if I can do that in the next week or so?
So I’ve been very busy this month sewing, I’m hoping to keep it up and maybe even get some work done on UFO’s. I haven’t touched any of them yet this year. I’m linking up to Elm Street Quilts for completing my March OMG.
So I have a little girl that will be turning 5 this month, which means a party needs to be planned/held. Yet somehow my plans for this month are huge!
So first order of business is to get all the EPP pieces cut out for Cassie’s quilt and the fabric basted to them. In all likelihood I will work on getting the pieces put together as well, but the goal is just to get them basted. She hasn’t asked yet when it’s going to be done, but she gets so excited when I show her a new piece that’s put together!
You know I had to start working on a new quilt instead of finishing UFO’s right? LOL So I decided to do the Harry Potter quilt along over at Seriously I Think It Needs Stitches. In 2017-18 I made the Pokemon quilt based on Kellie’s pattern (yes I know it’s still in the UFO pile but I’m waiting for her awesome quilt back she promised us!) and I loved how her patterns just made the pieces go together so easily. When I saw she had a Harry Potter one coming I decided I was going to it. But when the SAL started in January I didn’t have my fabric yet and then I needed the background which was out of stock so I had to pick something else. Last week I got the first block done and now I have to get caught up on the rest. So the other part of this months goal is to get the following blocks completed: Ron Weasley, Cupboard Under the Stairs, HP monogram, Hedwig, Whomping Willow and Harry’s Glasses (out today no pdf to print yet).
So I’m a little ambitious this month with Cassie’s birthday, however the EPP is always worked on while the kids are playing or I’m watching tv/basketball games in the living room. Also, the kids are away at my sister’s this weekend, which means lots of time in my sewing room – except for our date this afternoon/evening!
Wow! I can’t believe it’s been over 5 months since I posted anything! My only excuse is that I’ve been really busy with my business and the kids. I spent a lot of time in November and December working to get my new website up and running. Check it out Grace Embroidery & Quilts. I’m still selling on etsy, planning on using them both. I don’t think I made any Christmas presents this past year, although I did give my sister my blue and white quilt that was in the quilt show. She saw it and loved it, and since I really didn’t have any plans for it myself, decided to gift it to her.
The picture is from our guild quilt show, and the only picture I got of it finished before I gave it to her. I don’t know why it’s turned wrong, it was the right way when I uploaded it. I’m still getting used to this new way of working in wordpress. I’ll figure it out someday! π
So last month as I was scrolling through my Instagram feed I saw a really cute pattern called All the Hugs and Kisses quilt (#allthehugsandkissesquilt on instagram) and there was a giveaway. So I entered like I always do and promptly forgot all about it. About a week later as I’m scrolling I see there’s another post with winners. Lo and behold my instagram name was listed! Katrina had decided to give each of us that entered a free digital copy of the pattern! My plan was to make the quilt for Cassie for her big girl bed that I need to get from my sister’s house. I’m just not ready for her to be needing it! So I showed Cassie the quilt and she wanted to know if it was going to be ready the next day. My little one has no patience! So we pulled some pink fabrics, because that is her favorite color and last night I started cutting them into the pieces needed for EPP. That’s one of the reasons I entered the giveaway, it’s an EPP pattern and these days it’s almost all i have time for. Today we stopped and got background fabric at Joann’s and some heavy card stock at Staples for the EPP papers. They are all printed and I’m going to start working on cutting them out tonight during the Super Bowl.
So, my One Monthly Goal this month is to get all of the 20 X’s done for this quilt. If I can get started on the O’s that’d be great, but I at least want all the X’s completed by month end. Linking up to Elm Street Quilts.
I’m hoping to be around more this year, I’ve picked up my Dear Jane quilt again and will be joining a SAL (sew along) so I hope to have some progress on that quilt this year. And since I’m running the UFO challenge for guild I need to get some of my UFO’s done too!
Ugh! Has it really been 3 months since I’ve posted? May was so busy with end of school activities that I don’t even remember doing any sewing. As soon as school was out it was off to California to visit the in-laws, then another trip to Virginia for more family visits. Here it is already in July and we are home for 2 weeks before another camping trip. I’m really hoping it’s enough time to get some things done!
Last month I had plans to join the guild community sewing day, but kids halted that plan in it’s tracks. Alex had a fever and wasn’t going to be going to his Lego Camp so I had to stay home. So at the guild meeting I picked up a kit to make a small quilt for one of our community groups. I’d like to get this finished before our meeting next week.
I have 2 quilts that I need to do for my friend, both are signature quilts that won’t take long to put together, I’ve made at least 4 of them for her in the past, I just need to get moving on them! So this month I want to at least get them cut out and the tops put together. If I get more done great, if not that’s ok I’ve at least gotten some work done on them!
I hope to be doing more sewing, but summer is hard when the kids are here all day or we are gone camping. I’ve slowly been working on my hexie temperature quilt, but I have a LONG way to go on that one!
I would absolutely LOVE to get another quilt finished this month! π I actually have 2 goals this month, I want to finish my Good Night Irene quilt that I basted last month, and I would like to start working on my blue and white challenge quilt for guild. I have the quilt designed, and I need to stitch out blocks on the embroidery machine.
I also have a commission quilt that I need to have done for next month, but I don’t know an exact due date yet, as soon as the fabric I ordered gets here I’m going to get to work on that too, the top should be done by the end of the month. So many things that need to be done thisΒ month, but I don’t think there’s a lot going on around here and I might get a lot of time to work on projects this month.
Wow, I wasn’t sure I’d meet my goal this month, but somehow I managed to fit it in with all the other craziness going on! I’m pretty sure I know how I’m going to quilt it, hopefully that can be done in April. I think this will be a quilt we can throw in the trailer for camping season, we are always needing one outside or just as an extra on the bed.
Here’s the reason I could barely get a quilt basted this month! This little sassy princess turned 4 this month. We just had her annual checkup and she’s 3’2″ and 32 lbs, she’s so tiny but her doctor says she’s perfect. I’m still in disbelief that she’s already 4, seems like just yesterday that we were at the hospital getting ready to bring her home. Before I know it she’s going to be 5 and ready to join Alex on the bus ride to school. Time is flying by WAY too fast!!
